Approaching Cortijo la Solana along the proverbial long and winding road, passing through goat farms and olive / almond groves, you may start to wonder where you're going to end up. However you're soon rewarded with the sight of a large farmhouse sitting high up on the hillside below the many Cork oak trees.
Recently renovated, this old Cortijo sits high on the mountainside in the shadow of the Sierra del Torcal, the wind sculpted mass of limestone rock that forms part of the Parque natural el Torcal.
Situated in Malaga province, in the heart of Andalucía, La Solana is just 3km from the village of Villanueva de la concepción; 40 minutes drive from Malaga airport, one hour from Granada airport. Surrounded on all sides by a landscape of hills and rocky outcrops, this is rural Spain at its best.
Interspersed amongst the hills are numerous goat tracks and the sound of goat bells along with their herders are never far away, but despite this rural setting you are ideally situated to make day trips to several of Spain's most historic and beautiful cities. The city of Granada is only 1 hour 30 mins away (105 km), Cordoba is 1 hour 40 mins away (140 km), Seville is 2 hours away (185 km) and the revitalised capital of the Costa del Sol, Malaga is just 40 minutes drive away (40 km).
The owners David and Diana Worthy, who for over 30 years ran Crich Pottery in Derbyshire England, would like to welcome you to their new home. Having spent many summers cycle touring across the length and breadth of Spain Di and David would always home in on Andalucía, and particularly the mountains north of Málaga.
In this privileged environment they have created what they feel to be a perfect rural retreat, for those travellers wanting peace and tranquillity and for those wanting to engage in outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking , climbing , horse-riding, birdwatching or simply just to enjoy the wonderful flora and fauna of the surrounding area. With stunning all round views to the Mediterranean coast and the encircling sierras, this is the ideal location for anyone wanting to experience Real Spain.
This spectacular old farmhouse has been lovingly restored and converted into self-catering accommodation , while remaining true to local rustic tradition, with extensive use of stone , tiles and woodwork throughout - giving a truly Andaluz feel. At the same time, much of the furniture and fittings come from much further afield reflecting the owners' tastes in Indian, Asian and African craftsmanship, with many of the items collected on their extensive travels around the world.
